Here in the States, we’re just about at that point on the calendar where we start building that winter coat, i.e. eating too much, and telling ourselves we’ll work it off in January. While I am jazzed to see some of my siblings this week as they visit from out of state (they’re staying with another sister, so things are still normal at my house), I would be denying my workaholic inner-self if I didn’t admit that I am a tad bit more excited about what is happening at work.
Holiday, schmoliday – there is work to be done! Yes, I’ll take some time off, but there’s so much to do this next week, I’ll be amazed if my mind let’s me get a full 8 hours sleep much less an afternoon of work-free thoughts. I have been finishing mockups of a website refresh all day today (Balsamiq Mockups rules!), figuring out pages to be created, creative to be generated, copy to be written, marketing materials to be generated. There is a constant flow of conf calls with our architect in Ottawa, systems and consulting team in Sydney, and dev team in Pune (? I think they’re in Pune). All in all, I am in my element. I’ve always said that I prefer to have a full inbox. Well, I’ve got it. One of three new videos have been completed (echo Web Part Manager), another just needs an additional segment (echo Workflow manager), and one needs to be built from scratch (echo OutlookPowerTool+). Add that on top of a revamped project plan and a partner-facing PowerPoint presentation, and it’s going to be a busy week. Did I mention that we’re trying to get all of this completed before end of day Wednesday next week? Ugh.
So…back to my title….before I started rambling. I am thankful to be actively engaged in work that excites me. I am thankful to be part of a high-performing team (again). I am thankful <blatant workaholic reference> to be part of a company that understands governance and the importance of planning, where it’s both part of how we work, and the products we sell.</blatant workaholic reference> But most of all, I am thankful for a loving family that supports me and my obsessive-compulsive habits.
Now, back to it….
