April 2014 Content Wrap-Up

I’m on the road for the next couple weeks participating first in the European SharePoint Conference (#ESPC14) in Barcelona, Spain, followed by visits to London and Geneva for customer and partner visits, with a quick weekend stop through Paris on my way north. all of the travel always sounds much more exciting than it usually is. For example, I’m sitting here in my hotel room at 10am blogging. I’m in another country, with beautiful weather outside and a world to explore – and I’m working on 3 pieces of content before traveling to meet with a partner, have a working lunch, work some more, and then head off to a meet-and-greet with other speakers for tomorrow’s event. But I’ll be sure to post some pictures of the countryside from the window of my taxi…

Looking back over April, You can see that I’ve been trending away from some of the more technical topics toward broader management themes, slowly but steadily moving up the stack to the conversations I have with executives, rather than with admins and even power users. It’s just the nature of the maturity of the SharePoint platform. A few of my articles focused on the major events that happened in March and April:

I had been sitting on a topic around SharePoint migration for a couple months, hoping to find the time to work on a related ebook – but just never found the time. But I went ahead and published the short version of the article, which outlines a different way of thinking about migration. And yes, I’m still planning on putting together an ebook, and have ping’d my peer Gail Shlansky, who owns product management for our ControlPoint tool, to co-author it with me.

Of course, governance and administration will always be a major part of my repertoire. Included here are a couple of my new/updated presentations, with content from a webinar I gave this past month with my good friend and fellow IAMCP Seattle leader, Jeff Shuey (@jshuey) from Gimmal, as well as my deck from SPTechCon San Francisco.

Much to the chagrin of my management team, I continue to write and speak extensively about the growth and maturity of social within the enterprise, even though my company does not really offer any solutions within this space (yet). Of course, it’s a space I have written about for more than decade, with the origins of this blog going back to 2002 with the cataloging of various social networking sites and tools. We’ve come a long way, baby.

This past month also saw my expansion into the LinkedIn influencer network of content. I was happy to see the invitation to participate, and hope to publish more of my thoughts on leadership and management in the weeks to come.

Something I am also trying to keep better track of are quotes and mentions through various sites and blogs. I have a couple alerts that track down anything associated with my name. Apparently I am also a burgeoning star in high school athletics. Who knew?

And finally, I did an update on one of my more popular sessions for last month’s SPTechCon event in San Francisco. This is content that Microsoft LOVES to see from their expert community.

Ok, need to hurry and finish my other posts and get on the road. Need to head to downtown Barcelona for a partner meeting. More pictures and stories soon, I promise.
