Microsoft Managed Solutions

I’m rearranging some things on this blog as I move into my new role at Microsoft as a Sr. Program Manager over in MMS (Microsoft Managed Solutions). Specifically, my role is to look at the future of the collaboration side of MMS, and help package our SharePoint/Live Communication Server solution for the enterprise market (5000+ seats).

The question is: can SharePoint and LCS stand alone as a business? If not, what should be included in a bundle to make it a solid offering in the world of Software as a Service (SaaS)? Or should it be sold as an add-on to a larger managed desktop solution? My job is to find these answers.

One of the reasons I joined MMS is that the team already has a solid track record of deploying and managing these technologies corporate-wide. Operationally, we’re rock solid. In my experience at prior companies, we were always developing our operational and functional prowess at the same time as our primary technical development. Trying to both design and build your technology AND figure out procedural and operational structure at the same time is just plain hard. It’s nice to have a solid core on both front so that we can now build a scaleable business. MMS is positioned well, and I’m excited to be a part of the team.
