#MVPbuzzChat with Oliver Wirkus
For Episode 83 of the #MVPbuzzChat series, I connected with Office Apps & Services MVP Oliver Wirkus (@owirkus), a Senior SharePoint Consultant at DevFacto, and is based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. An experienced SharePoint expert and software architect, Oliver has consulted for a variety of different industries and specializes in consulting for international projects. A long-standing SharePoint enthusiast, Oliver is a published, international speaker, former moderator of SPUG Stuttgart, Germany, and a former member of the board of the Vancouver Office 365 user group.
I met Oliver while he was still living in Stuttgart a few years back, when I was invited to present to his user group in what was one of the most impressive locations in which I’ve presented: an auto museum / storage facility that included a meeting space overlooking rare and expensive cars. It was very cool….almost as cool as the SPS East Bay speaker dinner location (which I organized back in 2010) at the Blackhawk Auto Museum.
In this episode, Oliver and I talk about his work in the SharePoint migration space — a topic I know very well — and the ongoing themes and issues he sees with customers. Having spent several years with SharePoint migration ISVs (3 of them), it was great to chat with Oliver about the latest issues, and hear about his experiences. We also talked about the increase in automation before, during, and after a migration, and how the painful days of using SharePoint Designer or 3rd party solutions has been displaced by the newer tools and Power Automate, and how these tools feed into the planning and ongoing governance activities around Office 365.
